Haven Gallery is honored to present “Feminine Pollution”, an exhibition of new paintings by Canada based Domina (Kate Domina). “Feminine Pollution” is Domina’s third solo show at the gallery and features eight new paintings that both question and take control of the female role in portraiture throughout art history. Furthering her exploration of dualities, a prominent motif in the artists oeuvre, Domina begs the viewer to renew their perspectives of the story of the female in fine art, seizing control from the artist and placing it in the hands of the sitter and viewer. Domina’s new collection is powerfully evocative: through her sitters, she reimagines how we see the female on the panel, as well as how we see ourselves through the dichotomies of identity.
“Feminine Pollution” pushes Domina’s exploration of female expectation into the universal dilemma of the Madonna/ Whore dichotomy. Painting polarizing perspectives as double exposure portraits has propelled Domina into a new realm of Op Art. Intersecting her signature candy coated palette with religious iconography, Domina hypothesizes ways to reconcile the duelling expectations of Saintly purity and raw sexuality within us all.
About Domina
Domina is a Canadian painter of surreal feminist portraits. Her pastel palette and deviant symbolism explores the duality of what it means to be female in contemporary culture. Domina’s Jungian approach to portraits bonds her with the viewer through a shared sense of vulnerability, repressed sexuality and voyeuristic pleasure.
