Jason Mowry, “Naturpoesie”
October 26th – December 1st, 2024
Opening Reception with Jason: Saturday, October 26th, 6-8pm
Haven Gallery is pleased to present “Naturpoesie”, a collection of new paintings by Ohio based Jason Mowry. “Naturpoesie” is Mowry’s fourth solo show at the gallery and features ten new paintings focusing on narrative portraiture as it pertains to folklore and poetry. Specifically, one finds inspiration from the German Romantics and their idea of “Naturpoesie”, which translates to “natural poetry” as well as the Grimm brothers tales (who were known to embrace this poetic and nostalgic style of story telling). Additional influences from mythology and the multifaceted nature of the human condition bond with naturpoesie, resulting in an emotionally fervent body of work.
About Jason Mowry
Jason grew up between the art museums and comic book shops, combining the rhythms of each to walk the line between formal art and the fantastic. Jason calls Ohio home where he keeps a studio as well as teaches at the Columbus College of Art and Design. Inspired by the stories he reads, and the people and times that surround him, Jason’s work blends myth, personal narrative, and symbolic imagery to speak to the larger collective narrative.
